Google Sheets to Shopify Fulfilment Automation

Summary We operate an established Shopify store and have an existing Google Sheets operational workflow already in place. ## Current setup Our existing order workflow is: **Shopify → Raw Data tab → Operational Orders tab** This is already working correctly and must remain unchanged. The Raw Data tab receives Shopify order data via an existing sync app. A separate script then populates the Operational Orders tab, which is the working sheet used by staff for delivery and collection planning. We do **not** need any changes to this existing Shopify → Google Sheets workflow. ## What we need We require one additional automation only: **Operational Orders Google Sheet → Shopify fulfilment** When staff enter a date into the existing **Date Delivered / Collected** column in the Operational Orders sheet, the matching Shopify order should then be marked as **Fulfilled**. We are happy for this to run: * manually; * on an hourly schedule; or * as an end-of-day batch. It does not need to happen immediately when the date is entered. ## Preferred approach We are interested in using an established automation platform such as **MESA** rather than building a large custom Shopify application. A suggested structure is: **Operational Orders → helper/queue tab → MESA → Shopify fulfilment** The helper tab could contain only orders that have a completed Date Delivered / Collected value and the Shopify order number required for matching. This keeps the existing Operational Orders sheet untouched and provides MESA with a simple, controlled data source. We are also open to a lightweight **Google Apps Script + Shopify Admin API** solution if the developer believes this is simpler or more reliable than MESA. ## Required functionality The automation should: * identify only orders where **Date Delivered / Collected** contains a valid date; * read the existing Shopify order number/ID from the sheet; * find the correct Shopify order; * check whether that order is still unfulfilled; * mark the order as **Fulfilled** if required; * skip orders already fulfilled; * prevent duplicate fulfilments if the process runs more than once; * handle missing/invalid order numbers safely; * continue processing the remaining batch if an individual order fails; * leave the existing Raw Data and Operational Orders workflow unchanged. Normal Shopify fulfilment notifications to customers are acceptable. No additional status/result needs to be written back into Operational Orders because the date in the existing Date Delivered / Collected column already identifies completed jobs. ## Volume During peak Christmas trading periods, there may be several hundred deliveries or collections completed in a single day. The solution therefore needs to handle batch processing reliably without creating duplicate fulfilments. ## Testing required Before completion, we would like the developer to test: 1. normal unfulfilled order; 2. already fulfilled order; 3. multiple orders in one batch; 4. invalid or missing order number; 5. repeated processing of the same order; 6. confirmation that existing Shopify → Raw Data → Operational Orders functionality remains unaffected. Testing can be performed using dummy/test orders and selected paid test orders where appropriate. ## Security and ownership Security is important. We will not provide personal passwords or owner login credentials. Any required Shopify access should be provided through appropriate restricted permissions/collaborator access. Any Google access should be limited to the relevant spreadsheet. Any custom code, API connection or credentials must remain owned by our Shopify/Google accounts and must not depend on the developer’s private server or account after handover. ## What we want from applicants Please explain: * whether you recommend **MESA**, Google Apps Script, or another simple solution; * why you recommend that approach; * your estimated setup/testing time; * your fixed price; * relevant experience with Shopify fulfilment automation, Shopify Admin API, MESA and/or Google Apps Script. This is a **small, clearly defined automation project**. We are looking for the simplest reliable solution rather than a large custom application.
