Summary Senior Software Engineer (PHP/Laravel) Location: Remote Eastern Europe (Contractor) Engagement: 40 hours per week, ongoing contract About Us: We're a growing SaaS company building modern, scalable software that solves real problems for Field Service Management businesses across HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and adjacent trades. Our platform runs primarily on Laravel today, and we're actively investing in a strategic rebuild onto a TypeScript stack (NestJS). That means this role sits at both ends of the migration: shipping and hardening the current platform now, and helping build its replacement as the rebuild ramps. We're looking for a senior engineer who can take full ownership of complex features end to end, raise the bar for the people around them, and help us scale. The team is worldwide, so you'll need to be flexible with working hours and time zones. Responsibilities: - Own features end to end: scoping, architecture, implementation, testing, rollout, and production support, across backend and frontend - Architect and maintain robust, scalable backend systems in Laravel / PHP 8+, and contribute to the NestJS / TypeScript rebuild as it grows - Partner with product and design to turn ambiguous problems into shipped features - Optimize performance and lead the response on production issues - Set technical direction through code reviews, design input, and mentorship of mid-level engineers - Integrate third-party APIs and build the frontend surfaces your features need - Write clean, testable, well-documented code across the stack - Help evolve our engineering practices, tooling, and workflows Qualifications - 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, operating at a senior level - Deep PHP 8+ and Laravel experience, including OO design, SOLID, and modern best practices - Strong TypeScript and Node.js experience - PostgreSQL and query optimization - Redis, job queues, and event-driven architectures - RESTful API design and authentication (OAuth, JWT) - Solid automated testing discipline (PHPUnit, Pest, and TS equivalents such as Jest or Vitest) - Comfortable in a Git-based, CI/CD environment - Track record of working independently with minimal supervision and owning outcomes, not just tasks - Strong written and verbal communication across a distributed team Nice To Have: - NestJS specifically (Laravel experience transfers conceptually) - Microservices or modular monolith experience - Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS - A modern frontend framework (React or Vue) - Prior SaaS startup experience
