Summary Senior MySQL Database Engineer (Galera Cluster Specialist) We are looking for an experienced **Senior MySQL Database Engineer** with strong expertise in **Galera Cluster** to design, deploy, optimize, and maintain our high-availability MySQL infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be responsible for building a secure, scalable, and highly available database environment while ensuring maximum performance under heavy production workloads. This is a hands-on role requiring deep knowledge of MySQL performance tuning, clustering, security, replication, indexing, and load balancing. ## Responsibilities * Design, install, configure, and maintain MySQL Galera Cluster environments. * Build and manage high-availability, multi-master MySQL clusters. * Configure proper SQL load balancing and traffic distribution across database nodes. * Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize database performance. * Identify and eliminate database bottlenecks causing high CPU, memory, or disk I/O usage. * Perform advanced MySQL performance tuning and query optimization. * Review and optimize database schema, indexes, and SQL queries. * Ensure proper indexing strategies are implemented throughout the application. * Configure replication, backups, disaster recovery, and failover procedures. * Harden MySQL servers against security threats and unauthorized access. * Perform regular security audits and ensure best practices are followed. * Monitor for attacks, abnormal traffic, and database overload conditions. * Plan capacity growth and scaling strategies. * Work closely with developers to improve application database performance. * Create documentation for architecture, maintenance procedures, and disaster recovery. ## Required Skills * 5+ years of MySQL administration experience. * Expert knowledge of MySQL internals and performance tuning. * Strong experience with **Galera Cluster** (multi-master high-availability clustering for MySQL). * Experience with ProxySQL, HAProxy, or other MySQL load balancers. * Strong understanding of MySQL replication and failover. * Expertise in query optimization using EXPLAIN, slow query logs, and execution plans. * Deep understanding of indexing strategies and database normalization. * Experience tuning InnoDB, buffer pools, caching, and storage engines. * Knowledge of Linux server administration. * Experience with monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Zabbix, or Percona Monitoring and Management (PMM). * Experience implementing backup and recovery solutions. * Familiarity with automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Terraform is a plus. ## Security Requirements The successful candidate must be able to: * Secure MySQL servers against attacks and unauthorized access. * Implement encryption, firewall rules, and access controls. * Monitor for suspicious activity and prevent database abuse. * Ensure the database infrastructure remains resilient against overloads and denial-of-service attempts. * Follow security best practices for production environments. ## Preferred Qualifications * Experience managing large-scale, high-traffic MySQL environments. * Experience with Percona Server for MySQL or MariaDB. * Knowledge of cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP, or dedicated servers). * Experience with containerized environments (Docker/Kubernetes) is a plus. ## What We're Looking For We're seeking an engineer who can take complete ownership of our MySQL infrastructure—from initial cluster deployment to ongoing optimization, security hardening, monitoring, and long-term scalability.
