Description

Summary We are developing Apex, an AI-powered mortgage technology platform designed for Canadian mortgage brokers and brokerages. Apex is intended to bring the mortgage process into one centralized platform—from client intake and document collection through underwriting, lender selection and submission. The front-end design and core workflow have largely been built, and we are now looking for an experienced backend developer to make the platform secure, functional and ready for a controlled pilot launch. Key features include: Secure client intake and document-upload portal AI document classification and data extraction Mortgage application and underwriting workspace Integration with Velocity/Newton through its API Lender policy and mortgage pricing engine AI assistant that recommends suitable lenders and explains why they fit Missing-document and application-condition detection Role-based access for brokers, assistants, underwriters and compliance staff Secure multi-brokerage architecture Audit logs, encryption and Canadian data-storage considerations The immediate objective is to review the existing platform, determine what is currently functional, and develop the production backend required to connect the complete workflow. Responsibilities will include: Conducting a technical review of the existing front end and codebase Designing the backend architecture and database Securely integrating the Velocity/Newton API Building authentication, permissions and multi-tenant data separation Implementing encrypted document storage and secure API-key management Connecting AI document extraction to verified application fields Developing the foundation for a structured lender-policy engine Building a controlled AI chatbot using verified lender policies and deal information Creating staging and production environments Testing the platform for an initial pilot involving a small number of broker teams We are looking for someone with experience in: Backend SaaS development REST APIs and third-party integrations FinTech, mortgage, banking or other regulated industries Azure or comparable cloud infrastructure PostgreSQL or similar relational databases Authentication and role-based permissions Multi-tenant application architecture Encryption, audit logging and secure document storage AI integrations, document extraction and retrieval-augmented generation Production deployment, testing and monitoring Experience working with Canadian financial-services privacy and security requirements would be a major advantage. Candidates will be required to sign a confidentiality and intellectual-property agreement before receiving sensitive documentation, credentials or access to the complete codebase.
