Stripe "Save Card, Charge Later" Setup for Nonprofit Fundraising

Summary Project Overview I run a nonprofit called Genuine Climbing. We have participants who commit to raising a minimum fundraising amount for our events. I need a simple, secure way to collect and store a participant's credit card using Stripe so that, if they do not meet their fundraising commitment by the deadline, I can charge the remaining balance to the card on file. This is NOT an ecommerce checkout. No payment should be taken when the participant submits their card. Requirements The solution must: Use my existing Stripe account. Securely save a participant's credit card without charging it. Use Stripe's recommended method (SetupIntent / Checkout in Setup Mode or another Stripe-supported approach). Allow me to charge the saved payment method later from my Stripe Dashboard or through a very simple interface. Be PCI compliant. I should never see or store the participant's card number. Require no ongoing developer involvement after setup. User Experience The participant should receive a single secure URL. When they open the page they should: Enter their name. Enter their email address. Read the fundraising agreement. Check a required box agreeing to the authorization. Enter their credit card information using Stripe. Submit the form. Receive a confirmation message. No payment should be processed during this step. Authorization Language The page should include the following authorization (or allow me to edit it later): I understand that I am committing to raise a minimum of $________ for Genuine Climbing by __________. If I do not meet this fundraising minimum by the deadline, I authorize Genuine Climbing to charge the remaining balance to the payment method I have provided. Genuine Climbing may notify me before processing any charge. The authorization checkbox must be required before submission. Stripe Requirements Please implement using Stripe best practices. The solution should: Create a Stripe Customer for each participant. Save the participant's payment method to that Customer. Store the Stripe Customer ID. Store the Stripe Payment Method ID. Allow future off-session charges. Support charging any amount up to the participant's remaining fundraising balance. Admin Requirements I need an easy way to identify participants. Ideally, I should be able to see: Name Email Stripe Customer ID Saved payment method Date card was collected If possible, include this information in Stripe metadata or provide a simple spreadsheet or Airtable export. Technology I do not need a website integration. I am happy with: A standalone hosted page A simple web page A lightweight application The page should be reusable for future participants. Deliverables Fully working hosted solution. Connected to my existing Stripe account. Source code. Instructions explaining how I: Send the collection link. View saved customers. Charge a saved payment method later. Edit the authorization language if needed. Budget This appears to be a relatively small Stripe implementation. Please respond only if you have experience working with Stripe SetupIntents, Setup Mode, or saving payment methods for future off-session charges.
