Summary Company: course.tours — multilingual course marketplace (UAE) Location: Remote Type: Contract / Project-based (potential for ongoing work) About the Project: Course.Tours is a course marketplace serving the UAE market. We are implementing a Booking.com-style deferred payment system: students save their card at booking, and payment is automatically charged closer to the course start date. We are looking for a developer to design and build this payment flow end-to-end. What You Will Build: Card-on-file flow using Stripe SetupIntent (usage: off_session) with 3DS authentication at save time Scheduled charging via cron: off-session PaymentIntents triggered by course deadlines, with idempotency protection against double charges Failure handling: retry logic for declined cards, authentication_required recovery flow (email link for customer re-authentication), booking cancellation on final failure Webhook processing as the source of truth for payment state (payment_intent.succeeded / payment_failed) Stripe Connect integration: Express accounts for course providers, destination charges with application fee (marketplace commission), onboarding gating for schools Booking state machine: card_saved → charge_pending → charged / failed / requires_action Requirements: 4+ years of backend PHP experience; comfortable working in a Yii 1.x legacy codebase (we are not rebuilding — you'll integrate into the existing stack) Hands-on production experience with Stripe SetupIntent and off-session / merchant-initiated payments — not just Checkout or one-time charges Experience with Stripe Connect (Express accounts, destination charges, application fees) Solid understanding of webhook-driven architecture, idempotency, and payment reconciliation MySQL, cron-based job scheduling English and Russian sufficient for technical communication Nice to Have: Prior work on a marketplace or OTA/travel platform (Booking.com-style deferred charging) Experience with Stripe accounts in the UAE / GCC region, AED processing Node.js/TypeScript (we are gradually migrating services using a strangler pattern — future work available) Experience with SCA/3DS edge cases across non-EU card issuers
