Description
Summary The Senior Microsoft SQL Server DBE owns the health, performance, and scalability of Greenshades's database estate as the company accelerates on its growth path. This is a senior, hands-on technical leadership role and the deepest SQL Server expert in the organization, responsible for setting the standards that developers and infrastructure engineers follow. The role spans high-volume transactional (OLTP) and analytical workloads, with a primary focus on performance tuning, developer partnership, and architecting the redundancy and capacity patterns that keep systems fast and available at scale. Responsibilities Lead all aspects of SQL Server performance optimization, including query, index, and execution-plan analysis using Query Store, Extended Events, DMVs, Activity Monitor, and execution-plan tooling. Design and maintain effective indexing strategies, statistics, and partitioning schemes for large tables. Identify and eliminate blocking, deadlocks, parameter sniffing issues, and tempdb contention. Tune server-level configuration (memory, MAXDOP, cost threshold for parallelism, instant file initialization) for workload requirements. Establish performance baselines, monitoring, and alerting to catch regressions before they impact customers. Review schema designs, stored procedures, and queries prior to release; coach developers on set-based logic, indexing, and efficient T-SQL. Define and document database development standards, code-review guidelines, and anti-patterns to avoid. Help developers interpret execution plans and understand the performance implications of design decisions. Support safe schema-change and migration practices within CI/CD pipelines.
